We are using a rain well for our water for our Corydoras breeding and we have been finding these growing on the hydro-sponges, the sides and bottoms of the tanks and just about every where it can attach itself too. We would like to know if anyone knows what this stuff is, it is rather cool looking all over the sponge and other parts, but we want to know if it is dangerous to the fish and filtering system. I was using a digital camera so getting a really good close-up view of this growth wasn't easy. I hope someone can identify it. - Kaycy

This is like a vine, as seen on the bottom, this is what is all over the sponge and it grows just like this on the sides and bottom of the tank as well. It is coming from a rain well.

A some what better view of the bulbous tips.

You can some what see the bulbous tips on them here.

On this one, you can see where it is growing above the right side of the sponge as well as the lower left side. It just keeps growing. I hope this helped. I had to magnify (enlarge) the cropped part of the image. I probably should hook my microscope back up to my computer and bring a piece home though it doesn't live long away from the tanks.
