These are pics I took in March of 2002 of our 100 gallon community tank while the Pearl Gouramis were spawning, so we thought. The male kept building a HUGE bubble nest in one of the corners. We didn't realize till later that the supposed female was actually a young male. All signs indicated it to be female. What do we humans know of such things? I guess we just have to learn that fish will decide what sex they will be when they are ready to. (LOL)

This is the left front corner of the 100 gallon tank and the male has built himself a really nice bubble nest! This was the second nest he built in the left back corner of the tank. This was the alleged female. Short dorsal and anal fins. Best way of sexing gouramis and not as brightly colored. (not any more!) This is the definite male. More brillian coloration with a long dorsal and longer anal fin. (These actually keep growing!)
Another shot of the male.
